Philip Hepp – Cultural Anthropologist & Documentary Photographer
A Journey Through Tibet and Asia
My photographic work offers diverse insights into Tibet, India, Nepal, and other Asian countries, focusing on the lives and cultures of their people, but never claiming to be complete.
Many photographs date from the late 1980s and 1990s, when Tibet was just beginning to open up to foreigners, and many other Asian countries were also undergoing major political, economic, and social changes. Further images are from more recent periods.
This body of work goes beyond simply depicting scenic beauty. It can serve as a visual archive that explores and documents unique cultures, traditions, and ways of life that are threatened with extinction.
The journey presented here takes you deep into Tibet, India, Nepal, and beyond.
